Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. It is said to be the perfection of the Sacrament of Baptism, as the confirmed “are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Rite of Confirmation).

At St. Magdalen’s, children celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation while they are in the eighth grade, and are prepared through a two year program. They must already be attending religious education classes or attending Catholic grade school.

Adults who have received Baptism but not the Sacrament of Confirmation may have various options to prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. For example, the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process allows the adult Catholic, who has not yet received confirmation, a period of Christian formation leading to the Sacrament of Confirmation.
