Eucharistic Adoration is adoring and honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is Jesus truly present- Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. He comes to us at the moment of consecration during the Mass. The gifts of bread and wine are transformed (transubstantiated) into the actual Body and Blood of Christ. The elements retain the appearance of bread and wine, but are indeed the actual Body and Blood of Christ. This is what the Real Presence means. It is the actual, physical presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
During Eucharistic Adoration, we “watch and wait” in silence in His Presence, (Could you not stay awake with me for even an hour?” Mt. 26:40). We open ourselves to God’s graces which flow from the Eucharist. Through worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, the Lord draws us to Himself, and we can be transformed; we can become what God wants us to be.
Christ instituted the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist so that He could remain with mankind until the end of time, (“And know that I am with you always, until the end of the world,” Mt. 28:20). Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI has expressed poetically that Eucharistic Adoration is “God and Man reaching out for each other at the same time.”
“Go to...encounter Jesus in the Blessed Eucharist, go to adore Him in the churches, kneeling before the tabernacle: Jesus will fill you with His love and will reveal to you the thoughts of His heart. If you listen to Him, you will feel ever more deeply the joy of belonging to His Mystical Body, the Church, which is the family of His disciples held close by the bond of unity and love.”
